Our Approach

About Raven Outcomes

Philanthropy has long supported Indigenous communities—but today’s challenges demand more than one-time grants. Rising health disparities, climate impacts, and housing needs require deeper, long-term change led by communities themselves.

Raven Indigenous Impact Foundation (RIIF) helps make that possible. We support Indigenous-led planning, research, and capacity-building that lays the groundwork for community solutions. By working upstream, philanthropy can help spark systems change—while multiplying the impact of every dollar through outcomes finance.

Whether you’re a family foundation or an institutional funder focused on health, climate, or Indigenous equity, RIIF offers a trusted and culturally grounded way to partner in lasting impact.

Why Strategic Philanthropy Matters

Supports Self-Determination: Resourcing communities to lead, govern, and implement their own solutions—on their own terms.

Multiplies Impact: Philanthropic funding can unlock much larger public and private capital for implementation.

Builds Indigenous Capacity: Helps train leaders, strengthen local services, and grow community knowledge systems.

How You Can Partner With RAVEN OUTCOMES

Seed the Future: Support early-stage design and planning, including feasibility research, and engagement.

Build Capacity: Fund Indigenous-led service providers, governance processes, and technical support to lead and scale solutions.

Advance Learning: Support Indigenous-led research, data sovereignty, and evaluation to share what works—and why.

Reimagining Health in Northern Manitoba

In Northern Manitoba, four Anisininew communities are facing a diabetes crisis. But instead of waiting for outside programs, they stepped forward to lead their own. In partnership with Raven Outcomes, they began designing a new wellness model: peer coaching, culturally-based healing, digital health tools—all grounded in Indigenous knowledge.

Philanthropy helped make it possible—funding the design phase, supporting evaluation frameworks, and ensuring cultural alignment. Now, the project is preparing for full implementation and ready to serve hundreds of people. This isn’t just a health initiative—it’s a model for Indigenous-led systems change.

FAQs

What’s the difference between RIIF and Raven Outcomes?

RIIF is a Canadian charity focused on research, training, and ecosystem support. Raven Outcomes is a separate fund manager that uses outcomes finance to scale projects. RIIF ensures the conditions are in place for investment success—while staying aligned with its charitable purpose.

Is this different from traditional grantmaking?

Yes. Instead of just funding activities, RIIF supports the design, research, and capacity-building that lead to long-term success. Your grant helps communities build and own solutions—while unlocking further investment.

Can U.S.-based foundations or DAFs contribute?

Yes. RIIF regularly works with Canadian and American foundations and donor-advised funds. We can provide cross-border giving options and coordinate with your legal or grants team.

How is impact measured?

We use both Indigenous and Western evaluation methods—mixing data, community voice, and storytelling. Results are measured using theory of change frameworks and verified by third-party evaluators when linked to outcomes finance.

Is this a donation or an investment?

It’s a charitable donation. RIIF’s work supports upstream activities like project design, learning, and capacity. Raven Outcomes manages the investment side, once projects are ready.
